Marshfield Clinic Named One of the Best Hospitals for Expectant Mothers

(Wyatt Williams, WAOW) The US News and World Report puts together lists for consumers to get the best service possible.

According to Wyatt Williams with WAOW, when they took a deeper dive into the Marshfield Clinic, they found one of the best hospitals in the state for expectant mothers. Nearly 700 hospitals across the nation worked this year to be recognized as one of the best for maternity care.

About half of them received that honor, and just 17 are here in Wisconsin. Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis at US News and World Report said, “So we evaluated hospitals across the country by asking them to submit data to us on a bunch of quality metrics, and we used that information to assign which ones were qualified to be on our best list."

The thorough examination of the medical facilities looked into every little detail of the operations happening at the Marshfield Clinic, many of which the clinic excelled in. Harder said, “One of the things we hear from pregnant women is that they want to avoid c-sections if possible in many cases and so we looked at c-sections rates, some hospitals are better at avoiding unnecessary c-sections than others."

"We also looked at complication rates for the newborn. Obviously having a safe delivery where the baby is healthy is really important to everyone involved, the parents and the doctors." The staff at the clinic have one goal in mind every day: be better for those they take care of.

Dr. Tom Doering, OB-GYN at the Marshfield Clinic said, “Having physicians, nurses, staff all who are constantly trying to improve the care for our women in general whether it be for maternity care or gynecology." Officials with the clinic say it doesn't matter what the task is, the team there will band together and do everything they can to help.

“With any job whether it be in health care, whether it be in real estate, whether it be in anything you always want to be surrounded by people who have similar goals as you who have a similar work ethic as you and I think that's what we find in this one," said, Dr. Doering.

The clinic scored as a high performing maternity care with heavy emphasis on uncomplicated pregnancy.
