Tomah High School Band Participates in Two Honor Bands

Tuesday, December 5th, 2023 -- 8:01 AM

Tomah High School Band students were fortunate to participate in two honor bands in both Wisconsin and Minnesota at the beginning of the month.

These students are nominated by band directors and then selected by collegiate band faculty to make music at a very high level alongside other High School band students from around the Midwest. Six Tomah Band students performed in Eau Claire as honor band members.

The UW-Eau Claire honor band took place on Saturday, Nov. 5 with over 75 schools participating. The event took place at the beautiful Pablo Center at the Confluence in downtown Eau Claire.

Four ensembles presented a concert only 9 hours after playing together for the first time ever. The Gustavus Adolphus honor band happened on Nov. 6-7 with over 70 schools participating at the Gustavus Adolphus College campus in St. Peter, MN.

Tomah High School was the only Wisconsin school to attend. This honor band was extremely special as the campus music community welcomed esteemed composer and conductor Oscar Navarro to work with their students.

The ensembles performed several of his compositions at the final concert. What an incredible musical experience for their students to perform music written by the same person conducting the ensembles.

They are so thankful for their Tomah Bands faculty, who continually strive to give their students unique, impactful musical opportunities. Honor band festivals are a great way to do this. Their students represented Tomah Bands with pride, class, and excellence in music performance.
