COMPETITION FUELING LOW GAS PRICES IN BRF

The Jackson County Chronicle has an interesting story on gas prices in Black River Falls, where intense competition is reducing the price. In fact, the prices there are 10 to 12 cents cheaper than in the nearby larger cities.
The story says smaller stations are at the whim of Kwik Trip and Flying J, who some speculate are selling gas at or below cost.
Flying J is the largest retailer of diesel fuel in North America. In January, they filed a lawsuit against the state asking they stop enforcing the state's minimum markup law as a federal judge ruled it unconstitutional.
The state, meanwhile, contends federal courts do not have jurisdiction over Wisconsin law.
Minimum Markup requires retailers to sell fuel at least 9.18 percent above the estimated wholesale costs to prevent large retailers from driving smaller stations out of business
