City of Marshfield Invites Community Members to Attend Public Hearing on 2024 City Budget
Monday, November 20th, 2023 -- 12:01 PM

The City of Marshfield invites community members to attend a public hearing on the proposed 2024 City budget tomorrow, Tuesday, November 21st, at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose is to allow for citizen input before the Common Council considers approval of the final budget. The proposed budget is available for inspection at City Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
The proposed budget may also be found on the City’s website, at 2024 Proposed Budget. The total assessed value of all property in the City increased by approximately 37% over last year, due largely to the recent revaluation. However, the total tax levy, which is greatly restricted by the State’s levy limits, is only allowed to be increased by .73% for 2023 taxes payable in 2024.
Combining the total tax levy with the significant increase in assessed value, the City’s tax rate (per $1,000 of assessed value) would fall under the proposed budget from $10.59 this year.
“The proposed 2024 budget allows the City to maintain the high-quality services that we have provided in 2023 while addressing key staffing needs and continuing the positive financial direction that we have been working toward in recent years.” City Administrator Steve Barg concluded. “I am very optimistic for the future of our community!”
