REGAL-BELOIT TO CLOSE DOORS

Another blow for Neillsville's economy as a major employer has announced plans to close their doors and move production to Mexico.

According to sources with the company, including current employees, Regal-Beloit announced Friday they plan to close the doors at their Neillsville Industrial Park plants.

According to one employee, the Vice President of Human Resources made the announcement in person Friday.

Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy says she's been in contact with plant manager Tom Gundrum. He told her they plan to move production to Mexico and the plants will be completely closed by early 2009.

The former Leeson Electric employees around 140 people, according the Clark County Economic Development Corporation.

Some of the employees will be offered severance packages or other jobs at the companies Black River Falls and Wausau locations, Murphy says.

No company officials could be reached for comment.
