NATIONAL FFA WEEK
Thursday, February 21st, 2008 -- 1:49 PM
This is National FFA Week. Section 7 state officer Whitney Peissig of Colby was in Granton earlier this week for district speaking contests."The FFA is an agricultural student organization; in fact, it's the largest student organization in the world," Peissig explains. "We promote agricultural careers and opportunity and leadership advantages."
While agriculture and leadership are stressed, community involvement is too. This year, the National FFA is sponsoring the Million Hour Challenge.
"The Million Hour Challenge is based around service. What chapters can do is, when they have service hours in their communities and schools, they go online and document their services," she explains. "They're credited to the chapter and individually. The chapter can receive an award at the national level."
There are nearly 18,000 FFA members in Wisconsin.
