The best way to protect against influenza and its potentially serious complications is with a flu vaccine.

Kelsey Wussow, Lead Public Health Nurse at the Clark County Health Department, says the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommends routine annual influenza vaccinations for everyone age 6 months and older who do not have any contraindications.

Flu vaccination is especially important for people 65 years and older because they are at higher risk of developing serious flu complications. The CCHD is once again offering adult flu vaccines.

They offer the standard-dose, quadrivalent vaccine for individuals 18 and older, as well as the high-dose quadrivalent vaccine, for individuals age 65 and older.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (or ACIP) has made a preferential recommendation for the 2023-24 influenza season, stating, adults age 65 and older should receive the high-dose flu vaccine, as data supports that the high-dose flu vaccine provides better protection against influenza for this age group, compared to a standard-dose flu vaccine.

This year, we have partnered with Indianhead Community Action Agency to offer $25 gift card incentives for individuals age 55+ and/or people with disabilities, receiving their flu shot with the CCHD.

For more information, or to schedule an appointment for your flu shot, please call the CCHD’s Immunization Hotline: (715) 743-5292. We look forward to serving you very soon!
