COUNTY-OWNED LAND EYED FOR DEVELOPMENT

Friday, February 15th, 2008 -- 11:40 AM

Some county-owned land around the Clark County Health Care Center could change hands.

The county owns about 31 acres of land adjacent to the nursing facility in Owen. At a meeting Thursday, the Health Care Center Sub-Committee heard from the Clark County Economic Development Corporation about their interest in the land.

To be more specific, Executive Director Jane Schmitz tells Central Wisconsin Broadcasting News the City of Owen may want to purchase the land. It?s been appraised at around $84,500.

While there are no imminent plans to grow the Health Care Center, Schmitz says the committee does have concerns about the facility?s wells, which sit near the plot.

The Economic Development Corporation also discussed a 40 acre plot of land south of HWY 29 near the Center. It was purchased by the state as part of the STH 29 project, but a proposed wayside fell through. CCEDC may have an interest in purchasing that land for economic development purposes, Schmitz said.
