The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) recently appointed Mid-State Technical College’s vice president of Workforce Development & Community Relations, Dr. Bobbi Damrow, to serve on its Commission on Small and Rural Colleges.

The commission consists of approximately 24 college administrators from national member institutions. The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges.

The association represents more than 1,000 two-year, associate degree-granting institutions and nearly 12 million students. AACC’s Commission on Small and Rural Colleges offers advice and counsel to the AACC on trends and issues facing small and rural colleges.

Their work will be used to inform the larger AACC and lawmakers about the needs of colleges like Mid-State, and ensure their needs are considered in their larger advocacy efforts.

“Dr. Damrow has contributed significantly to many innovative processes and projects during her six years at Mid-State Technical College and through her career of service in post-secondary educational leadership,” said Mid-State President Dr. Shelly Mondeik.

“It is wonderful for Mid-State to learn of her commission seat, and I am certain that her insights and experience on the needs of small and rural colleges will be valued, especially in this changing landscape of education.”

“I am honored to have been appointed to AACC’s Commission on Small and Rural Colleges,” Damrow said. “As a commission member I look forward to focusing on the innovative practices of our nation’s small and rural colleges, especially those that can serve as models for other similar institutions."

"I also look forward to advancing important issues facing today’s small and rural colleges in support of AACC’s important advocacy work.” Damrow’s three-year term on the commission will run from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2026.
