MAPPED AND READY: NEILLSVILLE OFFICIALS DREAM OF 4-LANE HWY
Thursday, February 14th, 2008 -- 11:47 AM
City of Neillsville officials are not giving up on their hopes of a 4-lane USH 10.The DOT plans to finish their upgrade of the venerable highway in 2011 or 2012. At that point, USH 10 will be 4 lanes from eastern Wisconsin all the way to Marshfield.
Local leaders fear the "orphaned" section of road from Marshfield to Osseo will hurt area business.
Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy has been in contact with state and local lawmakers in the hopes of winning funding for an upgrade from Marshfield to Osseo.
The city's Planning Commission has even tentatively mapped out a bypass route for the 4-laner.
The route would see USH 10 veer about one-mile south on the east-side of town, travel west through the Town of Pine Valley, finally veering back north between the Strubel and SOS Subdivisions, reconnecting with the current USH 10 at River Avenue just west of town.
Another meeting on the topic is scheduled for Friday, March 28th.
