Wausau Man Reaches Plea Deal for Making Threats

Monday, October 23rd, 2023 -- 2:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man originally charged with five counts of making terroristic threats had those charges amended as part of a plea deal announced on Friday.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, John Erickson was given a withheld sentence including three year’s probation. Should he complete all treatment and maintain no contact with the victims in the case, the sentence will not be enforced.

He has also been ordered to pay more than $20,000 in restitution. The 39-year-old was accused of threatening five co-workers at a Schofield business following a negative review of his performance. Witnesses say he threatened to show up at the shop and kill everyone in the building, and had bragged about being “ex-military” in the past.

Erickson had been scheduled to go to trial over the comments last summer but failed to show up for a pretrial hearing. He was taken into custody in August before signing an $11,500 bond.
