Wood County Junior Achievement Looking for Volunteers

Friday, October 20th, 2023 -- 12:00 PM

Do you ever wish that someone had taught you how to set a personal budget?

Or took the time to share local career opportunities when you were deciding what to be when you grew up? That’s exactly the role that Junior Achievement plays when they send volunteers to local classrooms to teach students about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career readiness.

Junior Achievement, including Wood County Junior Achievement, provides supplemental school lessons for kindergarten through 12th grade students and teaches them how to develop the skills to succeed in the workplace, manage their money, and achieve their life goals.

If you’re passionate about helping young people in your community, you can bring that enthusiasm to the classroom by becoming a Junior Achievement volunteer in Auburndale, Marshfield, Rudolph, and Wisconsin Rapids schools. Becoming a JA volunteer is not difficult, but it does require commitment.

Volunteers can choose the lessons and grade level they are most interested in teaching. Junior Achievement will make sure the volunteer has everything they need before connecting with students to engage and inspire them.

By sharing their personal and professional experiences, JA volunteers can change the lives of local students, and, in the process, enrich their own. JA is not a one-size-fits-all volunteer program.

Junior Achievement provides a variety of opportunities for face-to-face or online mentoring in schools, offers ways to create engaging career-oriented videos, and trains community volunteers to assist at student scholarship competitions on a local and state-wide level.

No matter how anyone volunteers, they will be helping students connect what they learn in school with their future success in the workplace. During the 2022-23 school year, 33 volunteers connected with 1,869 Wood County students to teach them how to manage money, how businesses work, and how to become entrepreneurial thinkers.

Demand for Junior Achievement programs is already on a pace to exceed last year. Anyone interested in volunteering to teach JA lessons can find information on the organization’s website at https://wisconsin.ja.org or call the nearest JA office in Wausau, Wisconsin at 715-842-1056.
