Bill Probing Cases of Missing, Murdered Black Women/Girls Proposed in State Legislature

Thursday, October 19th, 2023 -- 10:00 AM

(Ted Ehlen, WRN) A bill proposed in the Wisconsin Legislature would probe cases involving murdered and missing Black women and girls.

The legislation introduced by Madison State Representative Sheila Stubbs would create a task force to focus on crimes against that specific population. Stubbs tells Fox 6 Milwaukee the task force would include legislators, law enforcement, legal experts and members of organizations concentrated on violence.

"I believe Black women and Black girls deserve to grow up in Wisconsin and be safe in the state of Wisconsin. We want to look at patterns, we want to look at underlying factors.

Stubbs points out Black women and girls comprised 36% of total missing women in the U.S. She’s waiting for state Assembly approval on her proposal.
