STATE DNR PUTS BRAKES ON CLARK CO. LAND SALE

The state DNR has shot down an attempt by Clark County to sell some county forestland to a private landowner.Last year, the County Board passed a resolution attempting to withdraw some land from the forest. A property owner in the Town of Dewhurst had encroached on the land by planting trees and maintaining paths.
A price of $3,600 was asked for the 5-acre plot.
The State DNR recently denied the request, saying the county didn't prove the sale would result in a "better and higher" purpose than its current use. They also felt the price was too low for the amount of land in question.
Forestry and Parks Director Mark Heil says the committee now has a couple option, including appeal the decision and rework and resubmit the resolution.
