MOTEL ROOM TAX DISCUSSED
Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 -- 2:27 PM
A committee looking into the possibility of a motel room tax in Neillsville met for the first time last night. The Tourism Committee is chaired by City Council member Dale Berger. He tells Central Wisconsin Broadcasting News the committee developed some questions for the city attorney.
"What the money can be used for, who has the final say in the spending of it? things like that," Berger said.
Some committee members were "for" the room tax, some were against it, Berger said.
The Neillsville Chamber of Commerce has lobbied for the tax. They estimate it could raise between $12,000-$16,000 that could be used for tourism promotion.
No future Tourism Committee meetings have been scheduled.
