Eau Claire County DA Asks Judge to Keep Vet in Wisconsin

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) Eau Claire County's district attorney wants the state to order a veteran back to a group home after he left the facility last week.

51-year-old Shane Helmbrecht was the subject of a Green Alert last week after he left his group home in Tomah. He's been at that facility after being found incompetent to stand trial in a 2016 homicide, but is allowed to leave as he wishes.

DA Peter Rindal is asking a judge to require Helmbrecht to remain in Wisconsin as part of his release. He calls it a public safety matter. No date has been set on a hearing.
