Bill Looks to Make Monarch Wisconsin’s Official Butterfly

(Ted Ehlen, WRN) A proposal in the state legislature seeks to make the monarch the state’s official butterfly.
Proponents of the bill seek to bring awareness to the struggles of the insect. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says due to habitat loss, disease and climate change, the monarch it is at risk of disappearing, but they add that it’s not yet considered endangered.
The agency points out that more than 80 percent of the species has died off over the past few decades.
