Fall Deer Hunt Not Just For Thrill Of The Hunt

For many out in the woods hunting deer this fall, it's not just for the thrill of the hunt.
State deer program specialist Jeff Pritzl says more and more hunters are looking to get meat in their freezer. "And of course, everybody wants that buck of a lifetime. But we're seeing more and more people appreciate the direct connection to their food sources." Pritzl says putting venison in the freezer is a fantastic way to keep your family fed. "People are more interested in where their food is coming from and having more of a relationship with their food. There's no better way to do that than deer hunting."
Hunters can expect to have plenty of extra antlerless tags available in southern Wisconsin. Pritzl says deer meat is a fantastic source of protein, and those bonus deer harvest tags keep the deer population healthy.
