State GOP Bill Would Allow for Vote Counting on Election Day Eve

(Ted Ehlen, WRN) A Republican bill in the state legislature would allow pre-Election Day ballot counts.
The measure would allow Wisconsin clerks to count absentee ballots the Monday before an election. The legislation is welcomed by election officials who currently can’t begin processing ballots until the morning of Election Day.
That stipulation can cause the vote counting process to go into the middle of the night in municipalities with larger voter counts. Results could still not be reported until polls close.
The bill would also require specific safe-storage requirements for election materials used during the earlier processing and reporting the total number of absentee votes processed on a Monday prior to an election.
