Bill to Legalize Kratom Reintroduced in Wisconsin Legislature

(Ted Ehlen, WRN) A bill to legalize a controversial herbal supplement in Wisconsin is reintroduced.
Ledgeview Assemblyman John Macco is one of the authors of the bill that would permit Kratom in the state. The supplement is used to self-treat conditions like pain, anxiety and opioid-use disorders. Macco points out Kratom is legal in most other states, but possession of it is a misdemeanor in Wisconsin.
Republican lawmakers tried legalizing it last year but held off on a vote amid criticism from law enforcement, who point out the substance is linked to psychotic episodes, overdose and intoxicated driving deaths. Both the FDA and DEA have issued warnings about using Kratom.
