Little Information About Dispute Between Chippewa County Commissioners and Sheriff

(Bob Hague, WRN) Local government intrigue in a western Wisconsin county.

There’s little clarity about a situation involving Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes and some county commissioners. According to media reports, the county board this week made a motion to refer alleged misconduct by Hakes to the Chippewa County District Attorney's Office for investigation.

The DA’s office confirmed a complaint has been received but had no further comment. In a statement, Hakes said he didn't know what the allegations are, and assured voters he won’t let (quote) “autocrats” decide their right to elect a sheriff.
