Marshfield Seniors Attend Badger State Boys and Badger State Girls Leadership Program

Marshfield High School seniors attended the Badger Boys or Badger Girls State Leadership Program this past summer.

The students were selected by their high school faculty based on outstanding qualities of leadership, good moral character, cooperativeness, dependability, and participation in extra-curricular activities.

Both Badger State programs offer young men and women training and experience in all aspects of government and responsible citizenship as practiced in a democratic society. Both programs included nearly one thousand participants from high schools all over the state of Wisconsin.

During the program, participants were grouped into cities and counties to form the 51st state.  For the duration of the week, the citizens of this new state carried out all the main functions of state government, using procedures of the State of Wisconsin as their guide.

They also had the opportunity to develop a party platform for their national party, like our modern version of the democrat and republican party. In addition, a variety of qualified speakers lectured on various topics, including leadership, motivation, and civic responsibility.

Badger Girls State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary was held at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Badger Boys State sponsored by the American Legion Post 54 was held at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
