Assembly Democrats Propose Bill Package to Strengthen Unions

Monday, September 11th, 2023 -- 9:01 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) State Assembly Democrats want to make it easier for unions to bargain in Wisconsin.

State Assembly Democrats want to make it easier for unions to bargain in Wisconsin. Stevens Point representative Katrina Shankland says union action has led to major wins for workers.

"The Teamsters recent historic UPS deal and the strike actions that led to ratified contracts at Leinenkugel's and New Dairy Select Milk here in Wisconsin, powerfully demonstrate that labor unions are using their collective power to win big for workers."

The bills would make it easier for workers to start unions and bargain with their employers. "The 10 bill package will help ensure every worker has access to fair wages, good benefits, and a better quality of life as well as workplace protections and voice in their workplace."

Stevens Point representative Katrina Shankland says workers across the country are seeing major wins in bargaining, citing the new contracts at UPS and Leinenkugel's as examples. The bill package is unlikely to see action in the Republican controlled legislature.
