Majority of Wisconsin Experiencing Moderate to Exceptional Drought

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) The majority of Wisconsin is in moderate to exceptional drought, according to the US Drought Monitor.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, extreme to exceptional drought (D3-D4) covers 13% of the state, while moderate to severe drought (D1-D2) covers 78%. Precipitation deficits since June 1 are 4-6 inches in the severe drought area and 6-8 inches in the extreme drought area.
This is about 50% of normal. With cooler temperatures ending, another hot spell for the beginning of September, there is little or no precipitation predicted over the next week. The drought is having a negative impact on agriculture, forestry, and recreation.
Farmers are experiencing crop damage and water shortages, while forest fires are a growing concern. Residents are urged to conserve water and to be aware of the fire danger.
