The Neillsville Chamber of Commerce held their annual Recognition Banquet Thursday night at the American Legion.Central Wisconsin Broadcasting was once again named the Chamber's Business of the year.
"We're very lucky to have the community that we have and the businesses that we have," said station owner Kevin Grap. "Every one of the employees are imbedded in the community: they give of their time, they're raising their families."
"We're a small market, out-of-market radio station. We're going against the big corporations and we're shoving it right back at them," said Grap to a loud ovation.
Lillie Paustian of Living Well Health & Fitness Center was named Entrepreneur of the Year; Erickson Farms Inc. was named Agri-Business of the Year; the Star Volunteer Award went to Kris, Ned, Frank & Russell Schmidt and Memorial Medical Center was given the Above & Beyond the Call of Duty Award.
Arguably the most entertaining speech of the night was presented by Dr. Greg Foster, accepting a Salute of the Year for Foster Primary Eye Care's 70 years in business in Neillsville.
"This being the political year that it is, I need to start this way. My name is Greg Foster and I approved this message. I was going to come in my 1950s outfit tonight, but my mother reminded me that, in the mid 1950s, my outfit was a cloth diaper and rubber pants," Foster joked. "I want to certainly thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this recognition of our longevity. It's kind of like being Brett Favre: everytime you start another game, you set another record."
Other salutes were given to Urban Sales & Service for 60 years in business, Carl's Barber Shop for 30 years and MPC Accounting for 25 Yrs.
