Neillsville’s Police Chief warns residents of a scam possibly making the rounds around the area again.
Neillsville Police Chief Jim Mankowski said he recently took a complaint from an area business called by Mr. Kalvin Bel, representing PayPal. Mr. Bel told the business owner he deposited $1,000 into the business checking account but needed them to go to Target in Marshfield and purchase two gift cards for $ 499 each. The business owner was smart enough to call Chief Mankowski and ask what they should do?
Chief Mankowski called Mr. Bel, and, after he introduced himself, the line went dead. Chief Mankowski said, “I can only assume Mr. Bel is not law enforcement friendly or was too busy scamming other callers. Let’s make Mr. Bel get an honest job and hang up on him if he calls you; you work for your money, and so should he.”
