North Korea Finally Confirms Detention of Racine Soldier
Thursday, August 17th, 2023 -- 9:22 AM
(Ted Ehlen, WRN) North Korea confirmed for the first time Wednesday that a soldier from Racine is in their country.
The official North Korean news agency said U.S. Army Private Travis King told investigators that he had decided to enter North Korea because he "harbored ill feelings against inhuman mistreatment and racial discrimination within the U.S. Army."
King, who had just finished serving time in a South Korean prison, was scheduled to fly to Fort Bliss, Texas to face possible disciplinary action. Rather than boarding the flight, King joined a tour group to the demilitarized zone and ran across the border to North Korea where he has since been detained.
