Man Arrested After Traffic Stop in Augusta Sentenced in Eau Claire County Court

A man arrested after a traffic stop in Augusta was sentenced in Eau Claire County Court on Monday.

According to the Augusta Police Department, on August 3rd of 2022, around 2:56pm, they conducted a traffic stop on a man, James Caufman, who had multiple warrants out for his arrest. Caufman was seen visiting a home at 818 Main Street in Augusta. Caufman had multiple warrants out for his arrest. Caufman is a lifetime registrant as a sex offender and is required to update his address with the Department of Corrections.

The Augusta Police Department stated Caufman has been arrested in Eau Claire County 14 separate times since December of 2019. Assisting the Augusta PD Officer was the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office. Caufman was taken into custody and taken to the Eau Claire County Jail.

Caufman was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, possession of methamphetamine, sex offender failure to update information, and tampering with a GPS tracking device. Several other charges were dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to three years of probation with a condition of 60 days jail time.
