The City of Marshfield is considering an ordinance that would see the responsibility of paying for the power to street lights to property owners.
The proposed ordinance would have property owners paying a monthly fee for public street light use. The cost for street lights in Marshfield is around a quarter of a million dollars. City officials say the reason behind the change is to comply with the state tax levy.
City officials stressed that residents wouldn’t be paying anything more as street lights are already built into their current taxes. Residential, industrial, and commercial properties will be charged differently.
The City will be working with a financial advisor to conduct a study to determine how much to charge based on the type of property. Marshfield residents with questions or concerns should call their local representatives. City officials expect the study to take four months.
