Clark County Emergency Management and Health Department Explain Heat Related Issues
Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 -- 3:01 PM
With some extreme heat conditions expected this week, the Clark County Emergency Management Department reminds residents to make sure they know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, and weakness. Symptoms of heat stroke include confusion, dizziness, and can lose consciousness. If you’re suffering from heat exhaustion, you should move to a cooler area, loosen clothing, sip cool water, and seek medical attention if your symptoms don’t approve.
If you’re suffering from heat stroke, you should call 911, move the person to a cooler area, loosen clothing and remove extra layers, and cool with ice or water. Heat stroke can lead to death if emergency treatment isn’t received.
The Clark County Health Department reminds residents of the heat warnings that we may experience over the next few days. A Heat Watch means be prepared: Reschedule outdoor activities in the coming days and make sure children, older adults, and pets have a place to cool off.
A Heat Warning/Advisory means take action: Avoid heavy activity and direct sunlight. Stay hydrated, find a cool indoor place, and check on those at risk.
