Governor Evers Touts Budget and his Vetoes in Appleton Stop

(Terry Kovarik, WHBY/WRN) Governor Tony Evers is promoting the two-year state budget he signed this week.
Governor Evers touted the budget's increase in support to local communities for education, workforce housing and infrastructure programs. The governor addressed a partial veto that restored 180 positions in the UW system's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
Legislative Republicans cut those positions during the budget process. Governor Evers however, says UW schools will have some flexibility in staffing. “The University System can use that. They may use it for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion work, they may use it for something else. We just wanted to make sure they had the folks to do the work.”
Governor Tony Evers’ state budget tour included a stop in Appleton. Eves touts the budget’s increase in support to local communities for education, workforce housing and infrastructure programs, such as Appleton International Airport’s terminal expansion project.
The governor Evers also addressed his use of the line item veto to restore 32-million dollars to the U-W System. Former Governor Tommy Thompson holds the partial veto record but Evers says there's really no comparison. “The ability to veto had changed since Tommy Thompson's time. Remember we had a change in our constitution to get rid of the ‘Frankenstein’ one where people were taking letters out of words to create a new word. So it's a lot different than when he was in office.”
Legislative Republicans cut 32-million dollars in funding for U-W Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts during the budget process. Governor Evers line item veto restored that money.
