The head of the Department of Workforce Development says education and training will keep Wisconsin's dairy industry thriving. Secretary Amy Pechacek says there are so many aspects that go into dairy production these days that advanced training is required.
"There are more growing demands in data, IT, robotics, computer programming, and of course, natural resources and sustainability."
Pechacek is hopeful for Wisconsin's dairy industry as the state makes investments in education and internships. "We recently announced a $1.1 million award to UW systems to help pay for internships, especially those in high demand fields like agriculture."
Pechacek says technical training in a wide array of fields is crucial. "There are so many different types of operations and types of careers that are needed to keep a successful dairy operation."
Pechacek says the Agricultural Center of Excellence at North Central Technical College is a great example of a site that offers hands-on training in the whole range of farm operations, and that continued investments will ensure Wisconsin has young workers coming into the industry for years to come.
