Wisconsin has experienced weeks of bad air quality due to Canadian wildfires, and a UW-Madison professor says that's likely to continue. Dr. Tracey Holloway tells WXPR in Rhinelander that pollution in the air is getting people sick.
"When you run the data of all the different reasons people could get sick, you see more people getting sick, more people dying on the days that have a lot of pollution in the air."
Dr. Holloway tells WXPR in Rhinelander that climate change is contributing to those wildfires in Canada. "There’s just more burning earlier in Canada and that is consistent with what we would expect, as the world is getting warmer."
Dr. Holloway says poor air conditions and pollution contribute to increases of lung and heart diseases and can increase death rates among the vulnerable.
