DOMTAR TO CLOSE PORT EDWARDS MILL
Friday, December 14th, 2007 -- 11:47 AMA Wisconsin Rapids-area paper mill is shutting down.
Montreal-based Domtar Corp. plans to close their Port Edwards paper mill, which employs 500 people.
The plant produces uncoated free sheet paper and will close in the second quarter of 2008.
The company is trying to consolidate production capacity due to unfavorable economic conditions and a softening of demand for fine papers.
