MAN ARRESTED AFTER TREE STAND STAND-OFF

It had the makings of a bad situation: A 51-year-old Pittsville man was reportedly suicidal, heavily armed with a woman in a tree stand in the Town of Hiles, just east of the Clark County border.The Wood County Sheriff's Department and Special Response Team, assisted by the Pittsville Police and Fire departments, responded to a call Thursday afternoon.
For a time, they thought the woman might be a hostage, but later learned she was not being held against her will.
Both came out of the tree stand and the man was taken into custody after a foot chase.
Officers sought a mental commitment for the man, and the case remains under investigation.
