Embattled Wausau Band Teacher Resigns

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau School District instructor who has been at the center of controversy resigned his position on Monday.

After a closed-session discussion the board of education voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Rob Perkins, who has been the subject of multiple investigations after he was accused of using racist and homophobic language towards a student.

The incident was investigated by multiple bodies including the board of education and the district itself, the results of those have largely been kept under wraps, though the district has acknowledged shortcomings and brought on a consultant to help create a more inclusive environment for staff and students as the result of theirs.

Friends and family of the student say he became depressed because of the slurs, though some students have stood up for Perkins- saying the incident has been blown out of proportion.
