Gun Safety Bills From Democrats are Unlikely to Advance

Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 -- 3:00 PM

(Bob Hague, WRN) Democrats at the Capitol are proposing gun safety measures.

Representative Lisa Subeck of Madison proposes a sales tax exemption for gun safes and locks. “People who are otherwise responsible gun owners, who consider themselves responsible gun owners, who in no way would ever commit a crime are complicit in these crimes if they aren't locking up their guns.”

Representative Sheila Stubbs of Madison, “Listen to me. How many more times do we need the same call to action before something is done? I am sick and tired of all these calls to action.”

River Hills Representative Deb Andraca wants a red flag law for the state. “We should not have to risk the lives of our first responders over and over again. We should not have to stand idly by when someone is talking about suicide and we know that there are guns in the home.”

Other bills call for criminal background checks on all gun sales, and a sales tax exemption for gun safes and locks. None of the measures are likely to get public hearings in the Republican controlled legislature.
