Black River Falls' Hoffman Aquatic Center Will Remain Closed for the 2023 Season
Thursday, June 8th, 2023 -- 9:01 AM
After a great deal of review and discussion, the City of Black River Falls has reluctantly decided that the Hoffman Aquatic Center must remain closed for the entire 2023 season due to significant maintenance concerns.
The pool is currently losing approximately 18,000 gallons of water per day. Therefore, an estimated 1.6 million gallons of fresh water would need to be added to the pool over the course of the season which would make it very difficult to maintain state mandated disinfection levels.
If at any time the water were to dip below safe chemical levels, it would put the public using the pool at risk. In addition, a Spring inspection of the facility revealed a major crack in the piping that supplies the water for two of the facility’s slide features.
Even if the aquatic center could have been opened, these slide features would have remained out of service for most, if not all, of the season. This was a difficult decision to make. The City realizes how important, and fun, the Hoffman Aquatic Center and the related recreation activities are to the community and how disappointing this decision will be to kids and parents alike.
Ultimately, the health and safety of Hoffman Aquatic Center visitors must be the priority. Anyone that has purchased a 2023 season pass or punch cards can visit City Hall located at 101 S. Second Street to receive a full refund.
Those who were looking forward to visiting the Hoffman Aquatic Center are encouraged to utilize the indoor pool at the Lunda Community Center located at 405 State Hwy 54.
