Tomah VA Medical Center Lets Go Doctor Accused of Misdiagnosing Veterans

A doctor accused of misdiagnosing veterans at the Tomah VA Medical Center is no longer working at the facility.
According to VA Secretary Denis McDonough, Doctor Mary Jo Lanska was let go. Last month, a former patient and Senator Tammy Baldwin raised concerns about Lanska. Lanska would perform Neurology Compensation and Pension, or C&P, exams.
The C&P exam is an administrative review where the examiner looks at the evidence of an injury or condition and makes an opinion on whether the medical issue is related to the veteran's military service.
That information is then provided to the Veterans Benefits Administration for review and can affect a veteran's disability status. According to a report, "an initial review" of C&P exams conducted by Lanska "determined some of those examinations were considered incomplete."
According to McDonough, the VA is reviewing every C&P exam conducted by Lanska, adding up to nearly 1,000 examinations. They will also allow veterans to be re-examined if they are eligible.
The Tomah VA Medical Center created a hotline for veterans who received a C&P exam from Doctor Lanska to voice their concerns and be considered for re-examination. The number for the hotline is 608-372-3971 ext. 64775.
