CLARK CO. LOOKING AT DEPARTMENT MERGERS
Wednesday, December 5th, 2007 -- 12:59 PM
Clark County exploring merging more departments.Already looking at the possibility of combining at least two departments into one Human Services Agency, the Executive Committee Wednesday said they wanted to pursue other possible mergers in an effort to save money and cut redundancy.
Specifically, County Board Chairman Wayne Hendrickson floated the idea of merging the Highway Department with Forestry and Parks, saying some employees performed similar duties and used similar equipment.
Hendrickson also noted a merged department would only need one department head.
The committee also briefly discussed merging Land Conservation with Planning and Zoning.
No action was taken, but the committee will discuss the matter further at a meeting in January.
Also, the committee decided not to pursue a hiring freeze.
