The Loyal Lions club recently received a special donation from the Loyal Economic Development corporation in the form of a Plusoptix vision screening device.
The device, which costs about $6000 dollars, will allow the Loyal Lions to more efficiently conduct vision screenings for children in the Loyal school district and St. Anthony’s school.
According to the club Vision chairman, Lion Dave Williams, “ We have had to depend on using the screener owned by our district and from the Spencer Lions club in the past. While this was not a problem, these devices were not always readily available at a convenient time for us. Now, we have the ability to set up screenings whenever we want. In addition, if the school requests a screening for a student, we have the ability to accommodate that.”
The device is able to screen persons from age 5 months and older with the push of a button. The measurement is performed from 3.3 ft (1 m) and takes mere seconds. Training on the device is simple, requiring only a couple of hours to certify the technician for 10 years. The Loyal club currently has two trained technicians.
Lion Williams went on to share that over a two-day screening period, a total of 86 children were tested at Loyal Elementary school with 14 of them being referred to see an eye care professional and 34 children from St. Anthony’s school were screened with 10 being referred to see an eye care professional. The Loyal Lions express their sincerest gratitude to the Loyal Economic Development Corporation for the generous donation.
