(Bob Hague, WRN) The state may be sending some money back to Washington.
Governor Tony Evers on Tuesday said his administration is preparing for the possibility the federal government will want back unspent COVID-19 funds as part of the debt ceiling bill. "We’re planning. All across our agencies we're looking at what is known and seeing how much money we'd have to send back.”
The Legislative Audit Bureau reported in December the state had about $1.9 billion in unspent funds as of June 2022. The Evers administration hasn't provided any updates since then on what it had yet to distribute.
