Thursday, May 25th, 2023 -- 2:01 PM

A man charged with stabbing a relative in Wausau is scheduled to go to trial next month.

According to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, on May 12th, around 4am, they received a call of a stabbing at a home in the 400 block S. 4th Avenue. When police arrived, both people were missing.

However, 3 hours later, a 40-year-old man went to the local hospital with a stab wound. It was determined he was one of the individuals involved in the incident that morning. Several hours later, 39-year-old Jason Hopinka was arrested in a marshy area near Sandal Lane in the Town of Ringle.

Hopinka is currently in the Marathon County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. He’s facing charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, aggravated battery and bail jumping. He’s pleaded not guilty. He’s scheduled for a Jury Trial on June 22nd.
