More Investigations Into Wausau Band Director Regarding Alleged Racial Comments

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) There will be more deep dives into the claims against Wausau East Band Director Rob Perkins.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, on Tuesday the family of the student who brought the initial claims forward announced that they are appealing the Wausau School District's initial findings to the state Department of Public Instruction.

A statement from their attorney said the district didn't follow both state law and its own policies by saying the racist and homophobic comments directed at the student weren't unlawful harassment because they were made "in fun".

The Wausau Board of Education has also announced they will bring in a third party to conduct an investigation into the claims as well, adding that as an independent, impartial body for the district's employees they aren't allowed to see the results of the initial investigation because of constitutional due process.

The DPI is also conducting its own investigation into the claims.
