ROTARY LIGHTS DISPLAY COMING SOON
Monday, November 19th, 2007 -- 10:40 AM
Kids of all ages? and local food pantries? are getting excited for the 2nd annual Rotary Winter Wonderland in Marshfield. It kicks off on Friday, November 23rd?the day after Thanksgiving."The intent is draw people in to Wildwood Park in Marshfield and ask them to donate food at the gate," explains Al Nystrom, project chairman. "When they do that, they\\\'ll enter a Christmas lights display that we really think is one of the premiere displays in Central Wisconsin."
With hundreds of thousands of lights, it didn\\\'t take long for word to travel last year.
"We estimate that 20,000 vehicles came through there in the course of 26 days. We really aren\\\'t able to tell how many others walked through," Nystrom says. "It was just an amazing response. We were really unsure what to expect."
On the first day of the display, Nystrom recalls there were vehicles lined up down the street waiting to get in. "We knew we had something special," Nystrom says.
In fact, the Winter Wonderland is expanded this year. Last year, visitors donated over 30,000 food items. There is no admission charge, but donations are appreciated to help offset the costs of the display.
