(Bob Hague, WRN) Governor Tony Evers wants more for local governments, from Republican legislators at the Capitol.
Evers put out a statement just prior to a Thursday public hearing on a new shared revenue plan. “The state must step up more than what I've seen. It's why I can't support the Republican plan as is and frankly I'll veto it in its entirety.”
That prompted this response, from committee chair, Representative Todd Novak and bill author, Senator Mary Felzkowski. “We're already starting the saber rattling, and there will be some adjustments and changes to this bill, correct? Okay. it's part of the sausage making, Representative. Oh I know how this works, I just think, I mean he could’ve at least let me put my gavel down first.”
The bill would provide $227 million in new state funding for local governments, with limits on what the new revenues could be spent on.
