Village of Granton Celebrates the Retirement of Longtime Grocery Owner
Monday, May 1st, 2023 -- 12:00 PM

A longtime Granton grocery store owner had his final weekend of business this past weekend.
Roger Nitschke has owned and operated Roger’s Grocery in Granton for the past 30 years, but has been in the grocery business for 51 years. Granton residents were saddened by the news of Roger’s retirement and closing of the community’s grocery store.
But, after 30 years, they realize his retirement is well deserved. The building and business in Granton is for sale and Roger hopes someone will continue on where he left, but feels it would be a great location for another business too. What’s next for Roger? His wife said they’re going to travel and he figured it’s best just to do as she says.
The Granton community celebrated Roger’s retirement on Friday with a parade through the community that included the Granton High School band and fire trucks. Students at the Granton District and community members also came out to say congratulations to Roger.
