Senator Baldwin Seeks Answers on Fort McCoy Wildfire
Tuesday, April 25th, 2023 -- 3:01 PM
(Bob Hague, WRN) US Senator Tammy Baldwin is seeking answers on this month’s wildfire on and around Fort McCoy.
Baldwin's office on Monday released a letter to Army Secretary Christine Warmuth asking about the Army's risk assessment and mitigation measures when doing prescribed burns.
Officials at Fort McCoy authorized a prescribed burn on April 12, while that area of the state was under a very high fire danger risk, and Governor Tony Evers had declared a state of emergency.
Among other things Baldwin's letter asked who approves prescribed burns at varying levels of risk, how the Army works with state agencies like the DNR, and what the Army is doing to clean up the fire area.
