(Bob Hague, WRN) Governor Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency due to flood conditions.

That follows heavy rain and rapid snowmelt, with flooding in several counties and potential for widespread flooding across the state. Recent above-normal temperatures caused rapid snowpack melting in northern Wisconsin, creating elevated water levels in rivers and watersheds.

That’s led to flooding in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage, water-covered roadways, washouts, and culvert damage. Several rivers and streams that have reached flood stage could continue to rise in the coming days.

Heavy precipitation in the forecast could produce an additional one to three inches of rain, causing more damage.
