CLARK CO. COMMITTEE ADJUSTS BUDGET PROPOSAL
Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 -- 8:33 AM
The Clark County Board is one week away from passing their 2008 budget and they'll have some big decisions to make. The state's late budget included a gift for the county: an easing of the 2% levy limit increase to 3.86%. Finance Manager Terry Domasczek explained at a meeting this morning, the provision would allow the county to increase property taxes by $244,000 more than proposed.
The committee unanimously approved a motion to raise the extra money, noting the limit would return to 2% for the 2009 budget.
The committee also held firm on a resolution that would cut full-time employees from 40 hours to 38 ? per week.
Saying the idea was presented with short notice, Board Chairman Wayne Hendrickson said he would rather postpone the move until 2009 because all 4 unions have been "bucking" the proposal.
But Greenwood-area supervisor Rodger Ashbeck said the unions haven't given up "one thing" in recent years. He said the only other fixes for the budget were pay freezes or layoffs.
The county's budget hearing is next Tuesday night.
